Trees for special occasions

We have customers who ask us to send a tree to a friend or relative as a present. This could be in celebration of a birthday, wedding, anniversary or special event. It could be a gift in memory of someone. It could be a leaving or retirement gift. Whatever the reason, we can send the Birch or Alder tree of your choice to anywhere in the UK. A card will be attached to the tree with your greeting.

-  Tell us your choice of tree or let us decide for you. (Please note that we only grow Birch & Alder)

-  Give us the full address of the recipient, including a telephone number if possible.

-  We will dispatch the tree and let you know (by telephone or email) when this has been done.
This can be timed to arrive on a certain date.

Here are some of our more popular trees:-

BETULA UTILIS VAR. JACQUEMONTII
Much sought after for it's ghostly cream-white or brilliant white bark, peeling in parchment-like sheets which are orange-buff beneath. Height: 30-50 feet, moderately spreading crown.

BETULA ALBOSINENSIS   Chinese Red Birch
Perhaps the finest of all birches for subtlety of bark. A ground colour of pinkish brown, but perhaps with a touch of crimson or even yellow - all overlain with a misty white bloom of betulin. Smooth, freely peeling bark.
Height: 30-40 feet, lightly spreading crown.

BETULA PENDULA     Silver Birch
Upright thin tree with white bark and delicate branches. Common birch in lowland areas - native to Britain. Fissured bark at base. Good autumn colour.
Height: 30-40 feet, Very slender growth with small crown.

ALNUS MAXIMOWICZII
Handsomely double-toothed large leaved Alder. Grown for the very showy, big, fat yellow catkins, which can reach 4-6 inches in length. Height: 30-40 feet, medium spreading crown.

ALNUS VIRIDIS
Shrubby, multi-stemmed Alder. The quirkily shaped limbs are often wonderfully silvery in the winter sun. Height: 10-20 feet, spreading multi-stemmed habit.

ALNUS HIRSUTA
One of the finest tree alders in foliage and flower - the leaves being leathery, scallop-shaped, shiny and deeply-lobed, and also whitish beneath. The catkins are magnificently displayed, for they hang in long brownish yellow tassels in January.  Multitudes of cones persist all winter. The bark is grey and smooth; becoming a little cracked later. Height: 30-50 feet, medium spreading crown

Price includes delivery,  instructions for planting/aftercare and personalised greeting card.

Please note that, like most ornamental trees, the bark of a Birch will not start to show the colour shown in the photographs until it is several years old and has reached a height of about 8-10 feet. Like so many things in life, it improves with age!
